Making Hurricane History

Pamlico County High School has had a few female wrestlers in the past few years. Macy Tyson, Class of 2020, opened doors for the female wrestlers that followed and will follow in the years to come. Currently, PCHS has two female wrestlers - junior, Layla Ireland and sophomore, Diana Harper.

This past weekend, Havelock High School hosted the first-ever North Carolina High School Athletic Association Eastern Regional Girls Wrestling Tournament, and one of our Hurricane wrestlers was there to take her place in Hurricane history.

Diana Harper competed. Layla Ireland, also a PCHS Softball player had sustained an injury during a game and was not able to compete.

Harper says, "Wrestling in the first ever female regionals I felt seen and like I was a part of a huge moment! I felt very honored and like I had been given so much support by my team, family, school, and most of all my coaches! It was an amazing experience and I hope I can start paving the path for future female wrestlers at Pamlico!!"
