Procedures for Inclement Weather

A Message to Parents

During inclement weather, Pamlico County Schools gives primary consideration to the safety of the students. School officials will make decisions concerning the operation of the school based on the best information available at the time. This information includes reports from the NC Highway Department, NC Highway Patrol, Pamlico County Sheriff's Department, school officials from adjoining counties, and reports from local school personnel who have checked the condition of representative primary and secondary roads.

Based on an assessment of road conditions from all areas of the county, the superintendent will make a determination by 6:00 a.m. as to whether schools will be:

  • Opened

  • Delayed

  • Closed

Early Dismissals

When weather conditions indicate the probability of dangerous road conditions before the normal school closing time, a decision may be made to dismiss school early. Early dismissal times will be announced over local and area radio stations. Pamlico County Schools' After School Programs will not operate on days when early dismissals occur or on days when schools are not operating because of bad weather.

In the case of an emergency school closing, students who attend an afterschool program will be transported on his/her AM bus that they are assigned to.  If the student doesn’t have an AM bus, then the student will have to be picked up at the school.
