During the November meeting of the Pamlico County Board of Education, the Hurricanes Pride Marching Band was recognized for their performance at the West Craven Band Classic. The following individual awards were received during the Band Classic: 1st Place 1A Color Guard--Cheyenne Lupton & Emma Lee; 1st Place 1A Percussion--Xavier Roberson, Aquindon Young, Marcus Greene, and Hayden Connor; and 1st Place 1A Drum Majors--Aaron Bennett and Mason Caroon.
In addition to individual awards, the full band received 2nd Place 1A Music and 2nd Place 1A Band. Band Director, James Durham said, “There were 6 bands in our category and we were the 2nd smallest band. We went up against bands that have double the numbers that we have. We also have a wonderful group of middle school students. The eight 7th graders and three 8th graders from Pamlico County Middle School had to really step it up to compete with high school students and they did an awesome job. Most of the bands were all high school students.”
Congratulations to Band Directors, James Durham and David Falardeau, Color Guard Instructor, Toni Starling, and to all of the Hurricanes Pride Marching Band members!
